Hey There Fellow Hugo nuts!

Sat May 14, 2005, 9:09 AM
Dear Hugonuts,

This club seems somewhat on a slide...and that sucks. >_> We're in need of art, and as I only do Minaps and photography, I'll calling on all of the members to help! :P You know you love me.

Much love,

:spotlight-left::spotlight-right:

Welcome to the community made just for fans of the infamous Hugo Weaving. We know him best for his role as Agent Smith, the soft-spoken villain and protector of the Matrix. He dazzled us with his performance as Elrond of Imladris in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Or the lovable drag queen Mitzi the Magnificant in The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. His roles have won him awards and the hearts of movie goers across continents and yet he remains humble and is the last to admit that he's become genre icon.

Hugo is lovely, talented and Oh, can we listen to him talk all day long so its only fitting that he should have a community in his honor here at DeviantArt.

:bulletred: Weaving a tale of Hugo:
Hugo Weaving was born in 1960 in Nigeria where his father worked in the computer industry before finally packing up his family and moving before Hugo was just one year old. Hugo spent most of his childhood in South Africa and England before settling in Australia. He spent three years in England in the seventies, attending Queen Elizabeth's Hospital school in Bristol. He showed early promise in theatre productions there and also excelled at history, achieving an A in his O-level exanmination. He arrived permanently in Australia in 1976, and finished his education at Knox Grammar school, Sydney. He graduated from NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) in 1981.

Hugo won the Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award for Best Actor in a leading role for his work in Proof (1991). He later on received an AFI Award nomination for Best Actor in a leading role for his work in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994). He won his second AFI Award for Best Actor in a leading role for his work in The Interview (1998 ), he also won best acting prize at the Montreal Film Festival from the same work. In 1998, Hugo won Australian Star of the Year.

More recently, his roles as Agent Smith in The Matrix Trilogy (1999-2003) and Elrond in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003) have considerably raised the level of his international profile.

Hugo currently resides in Australia with his wife, Katrina Greenwood and his two children; Harry (14 yrs) and Holly (10 yrs). His claim to fame has been tough on him due to the fact that he's a deeply devoted father and loves his family more than acting. He hates being away from them for too long and chooses to keep his acting to lower "less-extensive" roles so he can be closer to home.

:bulletred: Movie Reviews and Recommendations:
The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert:
Drag-queens make the best movie personalities. Personally I can’t stop watching this movie. Hugo’s character Mitzi (Tick) is just so lovable. Hugo manages to make you love his role so much and makes you believe that he was really this person. Much like he does in all his movies.
•Rating: A+

Russian Doll:
As a lonely private investigator, Harvey believes he’s going to die never married and alone. From the beginning on I was totally hooked. It’s a little offbeat because of it being an Australian film, the cinematography is shot like that of an independent film director but its absolutely fabulous. At times it’s a little slow but speeds up towards the middle of the movie. Its hard to find, but easily bought on Ebay.
•Rating: A

Strange Planet:
He plays the older and married love interest of a gal looking to get into the TV industry. If I were to rate this one on just his performance I’d give it an A but due to the sometimes dragging on and the acting of the other actors I’m not going to give it that. I promise not to be bias. It’s a great story and it truly makes you feel good towards the ending. I’d recommend it to anyone.
•Rating: B

Babe:
While you only hear his voice, it still shows just how good an actor he can be. Rex is mean, judgmental and has issues but towards the end of the film Hugo’s sweet voice makes you adore the dog despite his hangups. It’s a good film and very cute. Perfect for babysitting rugrats.
•Rating: B+

Babe: Pig in the City:
Hugo, as far as I can tell, only has one or two lines in the entirety of the film. And even though they’re done by him, it still sounds rushed and not as well written as the first one. The story is kinda silly and is very strange at times. Seemed to me that it was written without being completely thought through. One of those add as you go along films. I’m not as impressed as I should be. Still, its cute and the pig is just adorable. Good one for the kids.
•Rating: C

The Matrix Trilogy:
I HIGHLY recommend this for everyone! The first Matrix was excellent. Agent Smith was perfect in every way. I totally bought him as a villain. One of the best movie villains, at that. He definitely gets his in the end. Shame to see him go. These movies might not be for everyone but they’re fun, with good actors and amazing special effects. Its hard to rate them.
•Rating: A-B

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy:
One can not rate these movies without giving them an A++++. Not only did Return of the King take home all 11 nominated Oscars but it brought those who never would’ve given the books a second glance into Middle Earth fandom. I was truly impressed with every film. I’ll find it hard to believe if any film will ever top them. Elrond was wonderful. He’s exactly how I imagined him while reading the books before the movies were released. Genius Peter Jackson couldn’t have found a better actor for the job. Everyone should see these movies, if they haven’t already.
•Rating: A+

Bedrooms and Hallways:
I just got this movie in the mail a couple days ago and I must say that it had me giggling like a giddy school girl all the way through. Though Hugo doesn't have many scenes, those that he is in are hysterical. He's quite the character. I don't want to give too much away but his character involves things like using other people's homes to entertain his boyfriend in. Or naked shots of our darling Hugo in a pool. Not much there you can see but its obvious that the man has no swim trunks on. I loved the writing and the story was excellent. Had me hooked from beginning to end.

Hey there! I'm a hugonut fan as well. However I haven't been able to make any backgrounds or such for the actor that I really like. Also I have been looking for more artists on deviantart that make pictures, backgrounds, and etc of him. However I'm glad that I found a few users that really like Hugo as much as I do.
